WELCOME TO THE 2024 FAMILY REUNION IN WASHINGTON DC

Below is the Reunion schedule and details to help you plan for our time together.  (Text Sunny Sumter at 202-821-3606 or Ben Jordan at 615-934-7248 if you need additional information.)  Registration is required for all family members.

Email family photos to Ben Jordan at ben.jordan42@gmail.com or upload to his Facebook Messenger for the reception slide show. Deadline: Thursday at 8AM.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 24 - FRIDAY, JULY 25: FAMILY ARRIVES TO DC

Check in 4:00pm each day:   Arrive to Washington DC (Early check-in subject to availability). DoubleTree by Hilton Washington DC Silver Spring Hotel, 8777 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD  20910. Parking is onsite at $10 per day. Family is responsibile for payment of hotel room and incidentals. A credit card is required.

THURSDAY JULY 25 - TOUR THE US CAPITOL

11:00 am: (Optional) Tour the US Capitol: Travel by Uber/Taxi (Metro by hotel is closed for construction). Parking is very limited near the Capitol. 

What to Bring: Comfortable walking shoes. No back packs or large bags. No metal objects. Government ID required at entrance. Dress: casual. 

11:15 AM: Depart Doubletree Hilton Hotel via UBER (courtesy) to US Capitol, Capitol Visitors Center, First Street, SE Washington, DC 20515 

11:45 AM: Arrive to Capitol, check in at visitors center desk through security line. No food, liquids, large back packs. Small bags only. Go through security. Red coat personnel will direct you to the "House of Representatives" appointment desk and wait for the group. This is a good time to use the restroom since there are no restrooms on the tour.

Meet in the Emanicipation Hall no later than 12:20PM to get your group tour sticker

12:30 pm - 1:30 pm:  Tour the US Capitol (self-guided tour)

1:30 - 2:00 PM: Tour the Gallery Floor of the House of Representatives

2:00 - 3:00 PM: Lunch in Capitol Visitor's Center Cafe (you are on your own for payment. Price Range: $10-20 per person)

3:00 PM: Depart US Capitol on First Street for hotel via UBER

FRIDAY, JULY 26 - WELCOME RECEPTION AND GAME NIGHT

7:00pm - 9:00pm:   Opening Reception - Family Meet and Greet  / Family Tribute and Toast: Celebrating our Ancestors.    

Parking ($10) available at the Doubletree Hotel, 8777 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD  20910

Attire: White Optional. Casual is fine.

7:00 - 8:30 PM - Complimentary Food Buffet / Cash Bar

SATURDAY JULY 27 - FAMILY PICNIC/BBQ 

7:00am - 11:00am:   (Optional/Pay on Your Own) Breakfast, Mika Restaurant, Doubletree Hilton Hotel

2:00 - 6:30pm:   Family Picnic and BBQ at Wheaton Regional Park, 2000 Shorefield Road, Wheaton, MD  20902, Shelters E and F Reserved. Free parking in lot in front of carousel right in front of Picnic Area E & F.

What to Bring: Sunscreen and insect repellent. Picnic lawn chairs, blankets, personal coolers welcomed. Area is shaded; There are picnic tables/benches under the shelter.  There is plenty of shade. BRING YOUR 2024 JORDAN FAMILY TSHIRT for the family photo. Family who did not attend the reception can pickup their tshirt at the picnic

2:00 PM: Family Members Arrive

2:00 - 6:30 PM: Food Served

2:00 - 4:30 PM: Visit the carousel and mini train until 4:30 PM. $3.50 per ticket. Click here for more info.

4:00 - 6:00 PM: Picnic Games Begin

  • Spades and bid whiz, and more

5:00 - 6:30 PM: Meet New Family Members - Meet 5 new family members and learn something new about your family. Prizes.

5:30 PM:   Family Photo

6:30 - 7:00 PM: Picnic ends and guests depart

8:00pm - 10:00pm:   (Optional) Family Hang - Mica Lounge, Doubletree Hilton Hotel

SUNDAY JULY 28 - FAMILY WORSHIP

7:00am - 11:00am:   (Optional) Breakfast, Mika Restaurant, Doubletree Hilton Hotel

10:00am - 12:00pm:  Family Worship @ Florida Avenue Baptist Church, 623 Florida Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20001

9:20 AM: Depart Hotel to Florida Avenue Baptist Church (shared ride--Uber or Lyft.

9:45 AM: Arrive to Church. Sit in reserved area for the Jordan Family

10:00 AM: Church Service Begins. Pastor Trent to acknowledge the Jordan Family

11:30 AM: Service ends

11:50 AM: Family Photo at the Church

Noon: Depart to Hotel.
